Dr. Amanda Maplethorp
I am a local; born in Vancouver and raised in Port Moody. Having orthodontic treatment as a child, the transition from never smiling to a confident smile sparked my interest in passing that wonderful transformation along to others. It is a wonderful profession and a privilege to provide treatment for all my patients.
Education
After my undergraduate studies at the United World College in Wales and at the University of British Columbia, dental school at the University of British Columbia, I practiced dentistry for a year in Qualicum Beach and then returned to school for orthodontic training at the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center in Portland. I graduated in 1981 and practiced with Dr. Robert Hicks in West Vancouver until I made the move to establish my own practice here in Maple Ridge in 1988.
Continuing Education
I regularly attend the annual meetings of the following Orthodontic Organizations to continue learning:
- British Columbia Society of Orthodontists
- Canadian Association of Orthodontists
- Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists
- American Association of Orthodontists
- World Federation of Orthodontics
In the Community
I teach clinical orthodontics at the University of British Columbia and have been an orthodontic examiner for the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia.
My husband Ian and I have two children, Adrian and Eleanor, and we enjoy spending time with them. In my spare time I enjoy volunteering in orthodontic organizations, hiking, cooking and gardening.
